About Newsfeeds

What's a newsfeed?

A newsfeed, sometimes also referred to as an XML feed, RSS feed, or Atom feed, is an XML text file that gives information about news items that you can read in your newsreader.

What's a newsreader?

A newsreader is, well, wait for it, a reader of news items.

Opera 8, Safari 2, Firefox, and, supposedly, the upcoming Internet Explorer 7 are web browsers that all have various newsreading capabilities. Thunderbird is an e-mail client with an integrated newsreader. FeedReader (Windows only) and NetNewsWire (Macintosh only) are two popular free newsreaders.

How do I read the newsfeed?

Download and install the appropriate newsreader, navigate to the appropriate newsfeed, and your newsreader should take care of everything and present you with periodic news items.
